Ann Lurie and Chicago first lady Maggie Daley, teamed up as co-chairs of “Light Up a Life” to honor the Robert H Lurie Cancer Center’s director, Steve Rosen, and his staff for their tireless devotion to patient care. The event was the first fundraising effort for the center, which was endowed by Ms. Lurie, and it raised $1.27 million. 500 guests enjoyed cocktails and a musical performance by some of the talented teens who are members of Gallery 37. A heartwarming video highlighted the center’s work, and when Dr. Rosen spoke, he said he was fortunate to take care of the most remarkable people in the community, at every level. He also said his dream is to provide state-of-the-art care for as much of the population as possible.
After dinner, actress Bonnie Hunt, a former oncology nurse who worked with Dr. Rosen in the 1980s, told of the tiny clinic they had and how Dr. Rosen was always the first one at work in the morning and the last to leave at night.
