Cheers to yet another successful Goombay Bash! 1000 guests gathered at Navy Pier's Grand Ballroom to raise money for basic science cancer research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
Special guests included Jimmy Butler (#21 of the Chicago Bulls), George Wendt ("Norm" of TV's
Cheers fame), former Chicago athletes including Bill Cartwright (NBA), Ron Kittle (MLB), Alex Brown (NFL), Desmond Clark (NFL), and Adrian Peterson (NFL). Chicago philanthropist Ann Lurie joined this year's festivities, as did former Mayor Richard M. Daley via video message.
Goombay Bash 13 included some new elements to freshen it up for longtime supporters and appeal to new guests. There was a new floor plan to feature a stage in the center of the room, a Caribbean Casino for those who wanted to test their luck, and enhanced the VIP experience. It was everything everyone has loved about the Goombay Bash, only bigger and better!
