Maria Mullen to Receive Guiding Light Award at 2019 Goombay Bash

Every story about WHY someone gets involved with The H Foundation and the Goombay Bash is different. “I lost my mom, my brother is battling, my company is a sponsor, my friend asked me to join at a Goombay table…” IT’S PERSONAL.

In 2017, The H Foundation awarded our Inaugural Guiding Light Award to Lighting Industry leaders: Generation Lighting, Hinkley, Kichler, Satco, Quoizel, and WAC Lighting. The Guiding Light Award is given annually to an individual or company in the lighting industry that epitomizes the leadership qualities of those who guide others towards a brighter future in which no one suffers the hardships of cancer. It is our honor to recognize Maria Mullen as our 19th Annual Goombay Bash Guiding Light Award recipient.

Maria’s story is like so many others… In 2001, Maria was asked by fellow friends in the lighting industry to travel from New York to Chicago to participate in the first Goombay Bash. It was the admiration for what John Rot and the Founders of The H Foundation were trying to accomplish that lead Maria to the event, but it was the Goombay spirit and sense of community that kept Maria coming back for 19 years.

Maria’s inspiration to find a cure has changed since 2001 with her best friend, her father, and her cousin all being diagnosed with cancer in the same year. Maria has done all she can in our 19 years to support The H Foundation mission within the lighting industry. From her involvement in the Goombay Bash, to continuously sharing the message that cancer is personal, to being an ambassador for finding a cure, Maria never misses an opportunity to encourage others to get involved. It is an honor to recognize Maria Mullen as the Guiding Light Award Recipient of the 19th Annual Goombay Bash! Join us when we honor Maria on July 27th!
