Terry Bradshaw Named 2023 Goombay Bash Guest of Honor
The H Foundation & The Annual Goombay Bash Celebrates 21 Years Fueling Cancer Research!
We're very excited to announce this year's Goombay Bash Celebrity Guest of Honor, Terry Bradshaw!
For more than two decades, The H Foundation has donated crucial funding to the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. Their support is specifically earmarked for basic science research—the fundamental laboratory studies that lead to new scientific knowledge and ultimately fuel ideas for better therapies for patients.
Founded by a group of friends in 2001 as a tribute to their friend Pam Herts, who lost her battle with breast cancer that February at the age of 31, The H Foundation has grown into a true fundraising powerhouse. In the last 21 years, the foundation has raised more than $11 million for Lurie Cancer Center through its annual Goombay Bash and other events. In turn, Lurie Cancer Center members have been able to leverage the H Foundation’s $11 million into more than $250 million in private and government grants.
“Since our founding in 2001, The H Foundation and our annual Goombay Bash have been celebrated and supported by a sense of community,” shared John Rot, one of the foundation’s founders. “This grassroots spirit has underscored the message that ‘Cancer is Personal,’ affecting real people – families, friends, and neighbors. We, at The H Foundation, are united by the common goal to make a difference in the fight against cancer. We commit our time and resources because cancer is personal to each of us.”
As the organization enters its third decade, they are honored to announce Terry Bradshaw will be joining The H Foundation at the 21st Annual Goombay Bash on Saturday, July 22nd at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier! Get ready to experience Goombay like you never have before with Terry’s signature charisma and entertaining uplifting style LIVE on stage.
“When we read of his cancer journey, we wanted to stand up and cheer when he said that “cancer shows no favoritism”, said John Rot. “This is the purpose and premise of what has become a part of our life’s work. Everyone has been touched by cancer and it’s personal for all of us. You don’t want to miss the event this year... get your tickets today!”
Terry Bradshaw was the number one overall pick in the 1970 NFL draft out of Louisiana Tech. From 1972 to 1979, he led the Pittsburgh Steelers to six AFC Championship games and four Super Bowl wins and was the most valuable player in Super Bowl XIII and XIV. Sports Illustrated named him Sportsman of the Year in 1979. He was an NFL All-Pro four times and, in 1989, he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Terry is widely acknowledged as today's preeminent NFL studio personality, serving a dual role of co-host and analyst on Fox NFL Sunday. The show quickly became, and still is, America’s most-watched and multi-Emmy award-winning NFL pregame show. His work on Fox NFL Sunday has earned him multiple sports Emmy awards in the outstanding sports personality/analyst category.
Terry is the author of five books and has been featured in a number of movies and television programs. Among his many accolades and awards, terry is the first and only NFL player to receive a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
“Conveniently termed the ‘un-gala’, The Goombay Bash is one of Chicago's largest and liveliest cancer research fundraising events. But it's not just your typical fundraiser... it's a Caribbean-themed festival to find a cure for cancer. Leave your tuxes and high heels at home! It's time for Hawaiian shirts and leis,” said Cortney Hausser, the foundation’s executive director. “As we all know, cancer touches everyone - it does not discriminate. We are honored to welcome Terry Bradshaw as the 21st Annual Goombay Bash Celebrity Guest of Honor. Terry’s story is an inspiration and we look forward to having him as our keynote speaker for the event.”
Tickets for the 21st Annual Goombay Bash start at general admission tickets ($175) up to ($3,000) for a VIP table of ten and are available online http://www.goombaybash.com. For more information, please visit www.GoombayBash.com or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/thehfoundation.

The H Foundation
Committed to Finding a Cure for Cancer
The H Foundation was created, as all great ideas are, over a cocktail called the Goombay Smash. It started out as a few friends with entrepreneurial spirits that decided they could make a difference in the fight against cancer. So, every summer The H Foundation hosts the Goombay Bash, a fundraising event under the disguise of a casual Caribbean-style party. Since 2001, The H Foundation has raised over $11 million donating nearly every dollar raised to the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.
These funds are used as seed money for basic science cancer research projects to help them compete for additional government or private funding. As a result, our donations have been leveraged into over $250 million of research dollars towards finding a cure. The H Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization. 100% of our funding comes from donations by generous businesses, communities, families, individuals, and... from you.
