Becknell launched into the industrial real estate business in 1990 when co-founders Dan Harrington and Fritz Hartrich joined forces to build and lease a custom warehouse to Nabisco, a client Hartrich began developing for in the 1970s. It was the first of many enduring relationships Becknell has fostered since.

Under the long-term leadership of Harrington, who now serves as Becknell’s Executive Chairman and Chief Investment Officer, Becknell’s national portfolio now includes more than 29 million square feet of industrial real estate property, in addition to over 5 million square feet of developable ground for future development.

In January 2022, Mark Shapland transitioned from the COO role to President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Dan Harrington. Shapland is joined by a strong team of leaders that include CFO Clay Thelen, COO Peter Shaplin and President of Construction and Design - Craig Kouri.

At the core of Becknell’s superior delivery system is our design-build construction capabilities. While Harrington and Hartrich are no longer involved in the day-to-day operations, Becknell continues to benefit from their dedicated construction expertise, tapping into their decades national construction experience.

Becknell’s vertically integrated approach takes an experienced team of professionals working closely together. Our executive team alone has more than 100 years of collective real estate and business experience, while the rest of our highly talented staff incorporates a wealth of technical expertise in key trades that include architects, engineers, construction managers and CPAs.

A longtime supporter of The H Foundation, Becknell Industrial has played a key role in events such as Goombay Bash, Comedy for Cancer, and Karting for Cancer. At Becknell Industrial, cancer isn’t just a cause—it’s personal. Personal because of cancer's direct impact on Becknell team members. In recent years, Becknell Industrial lost one of their founders, and two valued team members, and have stood beside other team members facing this terrible disease directly, or supporting a spouse or family member.
